Remote work tips to stay productive while working from home

The quarantine is the reason why we all have a whole new look. And it isn’t pretty. From working late night in your bed to having no ideas whatsoever what angle is best for office morning meetings; there’s a lot that we’ll cringe thinking about in a couple of months.  An organization requires its employees to be on call for certain hours a day and these are usually determined by their reporting and clock-out time. The barrier between work and home has diminished for most of us working from home and this means nothing good for our productivity and mental health.

Here are a few things to take care of when working from home.

Get dressed

There are way too many ‘athleisure’ companies making big bucks right now by targeting all the people who are lazily spending their days in loungewear. This is not helpful. Working from home might be about working from the dining table but not getting dressed in the morning can severely impact your mood and mindset. Getting dressed in the morning helps pull you out of the ‘chilling at home’ mindset to ‘time to work’ mindset. Taking care of your appearance is also essential because once you let yourself go it’s a slippery slope and getting back to the normal way will become extremely difficult.

Make your workspace separate

Speaking of separating work and leisure, you must designate a space for your work life. Having a workspace allows you to switch into work mode and when the time comes to switch out of work mode and rest. To be truly productive, the balance between work and rest has to be maintained. Ergonomics is especially useful right now because a lot of people are going to drive themselves into joint and back pain because of poor posture and strenuous sitting arrangements. In the long term, this can be very harmful.

Create a minimalist desk space for your laptop, notebook san other office use items.  Make sure you have a chair to sit on which forces you to sit up straight but also gives you back support. The lockdown can last for much longer than we expect so creating a workspace at home that suits your needs of great importance.

Eat healthily

While we are work there is a limit to the snacking we can do. Mostly because you are not always able to entertain food on your desks or the office kitchen is far away from your desk. This is not the case if you are at home and your snacks cabinet or your fridge is at arm’s length from you. Eating your fill just because you are at home and you can is a dangerous slide into obesity and it is also likely to impact your productivity; ever heard of a food coma? We recommend timing your meals and incorporating healthy ones.
